Be Consistent

Consistency is a classroom key to effective management. The consistency of adults enables students to be more incharge of their learning.  When they understand the day-to-day functionings of their classroom, they have more time to focus on learning.

Here’s the short list for all groups, class-size to 1:1. It’s an easy routine with built-in signals . Use it consistently to establish a pattern students will internalize.

1. Maintain a consistent meeting place.

2. Share a warm welcome/greeting.

3. Introduce the task/activity with a simple one-sentence explanation.

4. Explain the details of the task.

5. Provide a five-minute check up as work starts.

6. Answer student questions as they work.

7. Compliment successes and share student ideas with the group.

8. Signal the end of the work time by announcing a five-minute wrap up.

9. Direct student clean up.

10. Send students on to the next task/activity.

11. (Small groupleaders, write an evaluation on the success of the task/activity for the teacher.)
