Creating a graphic organizer is another way to meet students needs: Here is one example.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1434\" src=\"http:\/\/www.paddyeger.com\/educatingamerica\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/vocab2-300x221.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"441\" \/>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2. Copy the words in their story\/book context and substitute words that relate to the students&#8217; experiences\/vocabulary. Look up and discuss how the substituted word(s) change the textual meaning and how specific words carry different meanings.<\/p>\n<p>3.Consider using acronyms when learning a group of related words: The directions on a compass: <strong>N<\/strong>ever <strong>E<\/strong>at <strong>S<\/strong>hredded <strong>W<\/strong>heat = <strong>N<\/strong>orth, <strong>E<\/strong>ast,<strong> S<\/strong>outh, <strong>W<\/strong>est.<\/p>\n<p>4. Use games to reinforce vocabulary words. Make a Jeopardy game where you give the definition and students guess the word in a question sentence. Example:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A person who overseers a sporting event to be certain the rules are followed. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>(Answer: &#8220;What is a referee?&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>5. Try Vocabulary Bingo or make Word Searches. (link: tools.atozteacherstuff.com\/word-search-maker)<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 I recently saw a clever way to teach vocabulary on Teaching Channel.
