In one hour, one day a week you could:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Round up books in the school library on a subject the teacher plans to begin in the near future.<\/li>\n<li>Correct papers<\/li>\n<li>Listen to children read to you OR read to children.<\/li>\n<li>Help a student organize for a project or organize their gathered information.<\/li>\n<li>Hang materials on a bulletin board.<\/li>\n<li>Pick up supplies for an upcoming classroom project.<\/li>\n<li>Assemble\/Collate project information for the students.<\/li>\n<li>Share your expertise with a class studying a topic related to your interests, occupation, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>It need not be during school hours.<\/strong> Many school have afterschool programs, tutorial sessions and evening mentoring where you might work with one or two children to help them get started on their work or on a project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to begin?<\/strong> Contact your local school or RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Contact me for additional ideas on how you can be of service.<\/strong> I have personal ideas for you as well as lists of ideas in my book, <em>Educating America: 101 Strategies<\/em>.\u00a0 (Talk with me weekdays between 7 AM and 7 PM Pacific Time at 425-420-5161)<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s<em> always<\/em> a place waiting for you in 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As 2018 becomes a memory, I hope you will consider setting a goal for 2019: to work for one hour in one classroom, in one school, one day a week.
