I’ve been a volunteer in classrooms since before my kids were born and lately since I’ve retired from teaching. For me, having a chance to sit with and work with students is a joy. It gives me a sense of helpfulness and also boosts my energy. In mid- December, as I worked in one classroom, I have three opportunities to watch kids faces light up at the thought of receiving 1:1 time with an adult. My happiness level at seeing their smiles soared. They did more for me than I did for them. I’ve tucked those smiles away from days when I need a lift and all I did was read and talk with them for 15-25 minutes. Such a treat!

My resolve for 2015 will be to find ways to support classrooms teachers beyond my community. I’m planning to share free ideas that pass the test of time that may help teachers with those tricky 10-15 minutes that need attention. Once I post them on Teachers Pay Teachers as FREE activities, I’ll let you know. After that, I’ll be on the lookout for other ways to support educators so if you have a quick trick I could share with them, please let me know. Until them. enjoy all the possibilities that 2015 has to offer!

As you make your new year’s resolutions, I hope you will include finding a way to share your talents with others.
