I’ve just rearranged my shelves and it feels good to have some organization to my piles of books. (What I really need is more shelves!)

"stackofbooks"In our living room I have one bookshelf for my favorite books and books by friends as well as an antique set of classics, my picture books that I read with third graders, and a few college texts that I couldn’t part with even after all these years. They share space with a dancer painting, my ballet trilogy and a couple of prized knickknacks.

The rest of my books are housed on a large bookshelf my husband made from koa wood. I have every shelf filled. One shelf is for the 50 books I plan to read very soon, another has reference books, and the rest are a mishmash of secondary hardbacks and paperbacks I’ve either read or plan to read after the top shelf starts to empty.

Here and there I have tiny travel remembrances and framed postcards, quotes I love, ballet music cd’s, photos of my former teaching partners and my birthday reminder book (open to the current week). I’m not as fortunate as one friend who has a wall of books complete with a library ladder on a rail so I box up and recycle my books to the friends of the library, little library shelves, and share other books with friends. It’s all good.

What’s your library like? Are you a book hog like I am about certain books or can you release books to new homes? Do you keep long lists of books you want to read in a folder or on Goodreads? Let me know how much of a bibliophile you are.
