When I wrote <em>Tasman\u2014An Innocent Convict&#8217;s Struggle for Freedom <\/em>the differences were a constant concern because in Tasmania, June was winter\u00a0 and December was summer. Talk about needing to be consistent!<\/p>\n<p>Tasmania is comparable to the Pacific Northwest if you reverse the seasons. The island lies between 40\u00b0 and 45\u00b0 degrees while the Pacific Northwest lies between 45\u00b0 and 50\u00b0 degrees. Antarctica and the Indian Ocean influence Tasmania&#8217;s weather; the Arctic and the Japanese Current in the North Pacific influence ours.<\/p>\n<p>Both locations have a mixed broadleaf, deciduous and needle leaf evergreen vegetation. Both have Marine climates and mountainous regions.
