Interview with Christine de Vogt from Dusseldorf, Germany

Friendship is an amazing gift. My friend Karen met Christine on a cruise to Alaska. Amid their conversations about their lives, Karen mentioned my writing and once she returned home, she sent her my ballet stories. Christine enjoyed them and asked if I would be interested in having a tiny tutu costume and a pair of worn pointe shoes to use with my book talks. Of course I said yes. And here we are, interviewing this multi-talented woman and my new friend from Europe, Christine de Vogt. Tell us a bit about yourself and your life on Düsseldorf, Germany. … ...

Misty Copeland Visits Seattle

On a soggy Friday in Seattle, a bright ray of sunshine filled Meany Hall. Misty Copeland stepped onto the stage to a standing ovation. The delightful 30-something principal dancer of  The American Ballet Theatre spoke candidly to a packed house of dancers and families for close to 90 minutes about her life struggles and her resilience. The director of the UW School of Drama acted as interviewer keeping the evening event flowing so smoothly the time flew past. Misty eventually addressed her latest book, Ballerina Body, which many young dancers clutched to their bodies  like a golden chain connecting themselves...

Book Trailer for for Ballet Trilogy and Interview with Videographer Emily Hill

Book Trailers are one way authors introduce readers to their books. My dear friend, Emily Hill created a lovely book trailer for my ballet-themed books: 84 Ribbons, When the Music Stops – Dance On, and Letters to Follow – A Dancer’s Adventure. She took my ideas and massaged them into this lovely tribute to ballet. After watching her work, I decided my blog followers might enjoy a peek behind the scenes of how she organized the trailer. Here’s her brief interview. Your book, The Ghost Chaser’s Daughter had an amazing book trailer. When and how did you get started making...

Let Me Introduce Denise Frisino

Denise Frisino is a multi-talented woman. I met her in an evening class she taught at the University of Washington on building characters in stories. Her ideas were magical and made a huge difference in how I saw my characters’ movement. Denise Frisino spent her summers playing and working in the numerous islands that define the Pacific Northwest, where her family spans four generations. Denise is a Seattle native who at age five began her lifelong devotion to performing and the arts. Both on stage and in film, she has been involved as an actress, writer, director, and producer. After graduating...

After the Music Stops, What Do you Do?

[Now that When the Music Stops-Dance On is available in bookstores everywhere (hooray!!!), I thought you’d enjoy reading a typical press release.] Edmonds, WA – September— How does a dancer who’s spent her entire young life training to dance and perform, step away from the choreography, the costumes, the music, and the bright lights? Marta Selbryth is no exception.” In When the Music Stops— Dance On, book two of her YA trilogy, Eger addresses Marta’s roller coaster of emotions as her career faces steep challenges. “Her life...
