LITERACY #8: Plays and Read Alouds

By | July 23, 2017

Summer! The perfect time to carry around a book and spend time with favorite or new characters and subjects. This is # 8 in my 8-part series on Summer Literacy.

Now’s time to get active with what’s been read over the past few weeks.

  • Select a story that can be acted out OR go to the library and check out poetry books, plays, DVD’s, etc to use.
  • Make sock puppets OR simple costumes to wear as actors. (cardboard sets are fun to add if you have time)
  • Plan a neighborhood play event (maybe serve lemonade and cookies). Ask other families to share their short plays OR watch video plays

Consider making a video your plays to send to relatives and friends.

Bottom line: Plan an end of the summer event to celebrate reading and literacy. Enjoy!
