Passage to Paris: In Lynne’s Footsteps

Passage to Paris: In Lynne’s Footsteps

Three chapters in Paddy Eger’s Letters to Follow, as Lynne sailed to Paris on the SS United States, took me back to when I “officially” became an expatriate, a state that was to last half my life. I began, a few years after Lynne, on the great ship that was built in 1952 and sailed until 1969. Although there were plans to return her to oceangoing service, those were scrapped in late summer 2016. For the good memories, though, you can get Hull IPA in cans with a beautiful photo of the ship, released in late February 2017. As Lynne...

Marta: Epilogue to Her Story

Friends and readers at book talk often ask, “What happened to Marta after her stories ended?” Here’s my answer. I wrote this several years ago, but it’s still how I think an unwritten future chapter might progressed. Marta stood at the kitchen sink washing carrots from her garden. Her mind wandered a thousand miles away from her present view. Lynne had just written from her touring along the west coast. She laughed to herself. Lynne was always a joy with stories to keep them the phone for hours. R.J., Ryan Jonas, crawled across a rag rug toward her, dragging his...

Letters to Follow Book Event Follow-up

Letters to Follow Book Event Follow-up

Thursday, February 16th I had my first book talk for Letters to Follow- A Dancer’s Adventure. It was advertised to be a rainy evening but turned out to be cool and clear. The cozy Edmonds Bookshop is one half block from the center of downtown Edmonds. Mary Kay has supported the Art Walk each month with guest authors for several years. Michelle, her PR person made a great window display that brought in several people before the event to checkout my books. I was lucky to enjoy a steady stream of friends, acquaintances and new-to-me drop-in readers who spent a...

Book Trailer for for Ballet Trilogy and Interview with Videographer Emily Hill

Book Trailer for for Ballet Trilogy and Interview with Videographer Emily Hill

Book Trailers are one way authors introduce readers to their books. My dear friend, Emily Hill created a lovely book trailer for my ballet-themed books: 84 Ribbons, When the Music Stops – Dance On, and Letters to Follow – A Dancer’s Adventure. She took my ideas and massaged them into this lovely tribute to ballet. After watching her work, I decided my blog followers might enjoy a peek behind the scenes of how she organized the trailer. Here’s her brief interview. Your book, The Ghost Chaser’s Daughter had an amazing book trailer. When and how did you get started making...

Coming Soon!

Coming Soon!

Letters to Follow-A Dancer’s Adventure, my last book in the ballet trilogy, is being shipped. That means I’ll soon hold it in my hands and then start planning how to get out the word about it. It’s much like anything new we start: the anticipation keeps us up nights, the event arrives, and then we must get busy by putting on the finishing touches; in this case sharing/marketing the book. My favorite way to work is events or chances to talk with readers directly. I can read from the book, answer their questions, and talk about whatever people want to...
