NaNo Update #2

The month of November’s ‘writing with abandon’ is over. Our local events attracted interested attendees, some being the same people participating in multiple events.

Comments I heard over the month:

“Even thought I didn’t do NaNo I got in the spirit and wrote more than I usually do.”

“I didn’t get going until the middle of the month, but then I felt inspired so I wrote over 50,000 words, That means I won NaNo’s challenge.”

“I started but life got in the way so I stopped, but I plan to finish my story at a later time.”

For me …..

All in all, it was a challenge worth the challenge. Many of us wrote and breathed words daily. I thought I would possible write 35,000 words but ended up writing 64, 514 words. Some how I  just couldn’t push myself to round that up to 65,000.

True, this draft of the story has tons of red X’s (my symbol for needing  more info or needing to check the validity of my ideas). True, I have gaping holes where all I got down were the basics. True some days were a stretch to write 900 words, but I did trudge on.

Would I do it again? Maybe. But I can’t see myself ready to write another book in 10 months when I’m not sure of the outcome of this one. Sticks and Stones is dependent on lots more research and verification, multiple edits, revising, working with an editor and then deciding if there is a final step I want to take: (whisper the next word) publishing the story.
