Seasonal Haiku

Winter is just around the corner. Here are a few poems to move you into thinking about the changing world. Enjoy

Winter Solitude-                                             Reflecting mirror

in a world of one color                                    frozen pond in bare garden

the sound of the wind                                     – I am day older…

Dark, frozen cornstalks                                   My bed is so warm

beneath a leaden sky, feel                               My alarm clock is so cold.

the rabbit’s warm blood                                  I think I’ll sleep in.

On a frozen twig,

The little bird dreams of spring.

Oh! To see the sun.

Now, try your hand at writing haiku. Traditionally it creates an image through 5 beats, followed by 7 beats and ending with 5 beats. As you will notice from the above samples, that my vary in less-formal haiku.

I look forward to reading the haiku you send my direction.
