Letters to Follow – Unsent Letter Part One
Lynne story, in LTF, Letters to Follow-A Dancer’s Adventure, contains post cards and letters she sends to Marta and her new friend, Noel. Below is part of a too-long letter I didn’t use in the book. (Space is a luxury when I write such long books!)
Dear Marta,
I arrived safely after a smooth sail. Northern France is flat as a long-play record. No mountains to help me get my bearings, only the hot sun. Hope I don’t get lost in Paris. The streets are spokes and higgity-piggity instead of straight rows like back home. It’s a bit scary since I’ll be traveling on the metro (subway). Not sure I like ‘mole travel’ in tunnels with people ignoring each other (like NYC!). Thank heavens I’ll have Arty to help me. She knows a bit about the city and speaks passable French.
Wish I could call you. I didn’t bring enough money and I don’t have the time to stand in line to make an international call. (Don’t I sound snooty!) By the time you receive this letter I’ll be well into practices and performances. I’ve met and I like Cheryl, the director. She’s American and speaks fluent French. I thought I’d be okay with my ballet French, but I’m not. These people talk so fast, their words seem to run together like water pouring from the kitchen tap. I imagine I looked dazed most of the time. I am!
Watch for information about LTF ovre the next few months as the chapters are edited, prepared for publishing and ready for reviews. The publishing date is early 2017.
