Volunteer Tip #3 – Set Examples by Your Actions

By | December 17, 2017

As 2017 draws to a close, let’s look at ways to improve our time spent volunteering in classrooms. Ask yourself, “Am I setting a good example for students?”

Are you a 1 or a 2?

(1) Do you pay attention to directions given by the teacher or (2) are you having side conversations with students or other adults?

(1) Do you follow students rules or (2) do you assume you are not expected to be that engaged?

(1) Do you use appropriate voice levels and engage all students or (2) do you only call on the ones who wave their hands in the air?

(1) Do you help with clean-up and participate in school emergency drills or (2) do you ignore those aspects of classroom procedures?

Be the ONE who sets the bar high for engagement and appropriate actions. Being a TWO means you’re distracting students.
