The end of this week I’m honored to be presenting two sessions to para educators in the Edmonds School district during their fall in-service day. It will be a chance to talk about ways to engage students in their own learning. We’ll discuss hooks and pocket activities, ways to focus students, the use of hand signals and questioning strategies during discussions, and self evaluations.
Para educators play a vital role in schools, a job to consider if you are looking to make a difference for kids. Whether you are beginning a career, looking for change, or retired, you’d play an important role as a teacher’s assistant. It would give you a chance to work with one student or a group of students in classrooms ranging from K-12 in a variety of school settings (elementary, middle school or high school in both public or private schools).
True, the pay isn’t great, but the reward of helping students realize their potential is a worth investment of your time.
Interested? Contact a local school in your area. Not looking for paying job, but want to help kids? Volunteer in that school near you.
