Incorporating S.T.E.A.M. into your classroom need not be expensive. What it takes is an added pinch of creativity. Try these ideas to get started enhancing your S (science), T (technology), E(engineering), A (art) and M (math) activities.
- Use the materials that you have on hand. Team up with other teachers to share kits and materials found on campus. (You can schedule your activities at different times to make the materials go further.)For special activities invite students to bring and share their personal materials or found items; be sure ownership is clearly marked so items are returned to owners after they are used.
- Check out your subject titles on Pinterest.com and TeachersPayTeachers.com for more ideas that you can use in a lifetime!!
- Use common, inexpensive materials for projects. Wander a dollar store and let your mind go free. Purchase materials that enjoy repeated usage.
- Share reproducable-at-home experiments so students can try them on their own (with parental approval). Encourage them to enter their experiments and results in a Discovery Journal that might be shared with classmates.
