There are 2 types of learners: analytic and global. We are both types of learner, but each of us tend to lean toward one more than the other.
Here are the traits of an analytic learner:
1. Prefers true-false and multiple choice test questions.
2. Sees things separately rather than as a general idea.
3. Prefers to give and receive exact answers.
4. Tunes out people when needs to think.
5. Resists being ‘told’ what to do.
6. Doesn’t need others approval.
7. Word-by-word reader
8. Works best alone.
9. Self organizes.
10. Enjoys math.
Now, here’s a look at the global learner’s traits.
1. Prefers tests with essays and requests for sharing opinions rather than true-false and multiple choice options.
2. Math is an impersonal subject; in reading the global often skims and goes back for details.
3. Sees the big picture. Global learners look for the main ideas and relationships.
4. Performs as a team player rather than a competitor; readily shares ideas.
5 Wants to know the expectations on tasks and projects.
6. Appreciates quiet time and praise.
7. Sensitive to criticism.
8. Ideas grow randomly.
9. Detests timed tests.
10. Procrastinates.
Just for fun:
Create your own Learning Style list.
Rank yourself on each factor with a scale of 0…to…10.
Clump the highs, mediums and lows together. Decide which way your brain functions best: analytical or global or, are you like me, a true mutt of styles?
