Back to School, Back to Reading

By | September 9, 2018

Hopefully reading has been an active part of your summer with kids. Books, plays, short stories, cereal boxes, maps, pamphlets, whatever you used will make a positive difference as school restarts.

If you took part in a summer library program be sure to keep that interest going throughout the school year by making your own reading challenge or by using mine which you will find below.

Need prizes for your personal reading challenge? Consider ideas like these:

  • read 2 books about adventure and select the next family night movie
  • read a book of fun poems and create a family poem-in-a-bag evening where the names of poems from one of the books(that you still have not returned to the library) are on slips of paper. Family members take turns reading the poems aloud.
  • read a book about history (non fiction or fiction) and plan a meal that the characters might have eaten during that era.

OR…

Use the ABC Reading Challenge Topics below to encourage kids to read a variety of books. Simply add stars in each category as books are read. If you need other prize ideas, please contact me via www.paddyeger.com My brain is always bursting with non-bribe, family-centered ideas I’ll be glad to share.
